Transcript

Joanna Kirman (Malaghan Institute): I can’t say at high school I ever would have thought that years down the track I would have been working on tuberculosis of all diseases. I’ve always really, really enjoyed biology; loved it through school, loved animals, loved nature and those types of things.

And it just became a natural progression. As I was studying at university, I just took courses that I was really interested in because I tended to do better in them. And I ended up working in immunology, which was something I felt very passionate about, and that was important to me as well. I couldn’t….you know, it’s such a hard slog sometimes, you couldn’t do it unless you felt really excited about what the end result would be.
