About us
The New Zealand Biotechnology Learning Hub is a national project designed to support the effective teaching of biotechnology in New Zealand schools.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), and managed by the University of Waikato.
We aim to provide research-informed teaching resources and promote the online portal with the education and biotechnology communities. We are a collaboration between teachers, teacher educators and the biotechnology community. Our infrastructure enable us to respond to the needs of both the education and biotechnology communities.
An initial scoping exercise in 2004 incorporated several phases:
- a national and international literature review of biotechnology education and industry-school links
- classroom-based trials to identify ‘what works’
- focus group studies with the biotechnology industry to identify their needs
- development of a web-based content demonstrator.
The New Zealand Biotechnology Learning Hub was launched by the Minister of Research, Science & Technology in March 2005.
