Food Standards Australia New Zealand ensures safe food by developing effective food standards for Australia and New Zealand.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) protects the health and safety of the people in Australia and New Zealand by maintaining a safe food supply.

FSANZ develops food standards for composition, labelling and contaminants, including microbiological limits, that apply to all foods produced or imported for sale in Australia and New Zealand.

FSANZ’s main roles are:

Developing standards for food manufacturing, labelling, processing and primary production

  • Providing information to consumers to enable better consumer choice
  • Conducting consumer and industry research
  • Undertaking dietary exposure modelling and scientific risk assessments.
